International Visitors

You do not need a visa or permit to visit New Zealand if you are:

  1. A New Zealand/Australia citizen or Resident Permit holder
  2. An Australian citizen travelling on an Australian passport
  3. British citizen and or British passport holder who can produce evidence of the right to reside permanently in the UK (you can stay up to six months)
  4. A citizen of a country which has a visa waiver agreement with New Zealand (you can stay up to three months).

Visitor visas allow you to come to New Zealand for a holiday, sightseeing or adventure activity, or to visit friends and family. We also have some special visitor visas that allow short visits for other reasons, like to take part in a sports or music event, or for business reasons.

Note that Australian citizens and residents don’t usually need a visa to travel to New Zealand. But if you don’t meet our character requirements, you’ll need to apply for a visa before travelling to New Zealand.
